Sir-Nuts

Party time!

Posted by Sir-Nuts Jun. 25, 2008 @ 3:55 PM EDT

Time for a news post!

Well this time of the year here in Brazil is full of parties. We celebrate it because... I don't really know, we celebrate so many useless things! Anyway, I believe this is what we celebrate: São João's party. Yeah, we dedicate an entire month to a saint! How... how?

We still go to school. Actually, only in a few places is a holiday (not in my city). But this is celebrated everywhere in Brazil, including here. And my school is holding a party next Saturday (28)!

I'm not too fond of these parties, but they have nice food and some people dress-up in a custom-funny way. Also, most of my friends will be there, so I'm going mostly for teh chit-chatting. =)

Has your country any weird holidays or celebrations like this?

Weird or not... PARTY TIME!

Weird holidays? How do I know if they are weird if they are normal to me? I guess Valentine's Day is kind of weird. Is that celebrated in other countries?

Jun. 25, 2008 | 4:15 PM Sir-Nuts responds:

If they're weird or normal... well, it's a matter of taste. São João isn't weird to some, but it is to me. =)

Valentine's Day is more a commercial holiday than anything else, in my opinion. And it is celebrated here. Actually, it was celebrated 13 days ago (12/06).

What do you celebrate on that date? A saint? An historical day?

My country sucks like that. Holidays are hyped up by the media so much it seems like one starts right after the other ends..Brazil sounds like fun, must be nice to have so many celebrations. ;p
We very well may only live once, so you mind as well make the most fun out of it as you can, right? :P

Jun. 26, 2008 | 3:37 PM Sir-Nuts responds:

Yeah, the media also makes a huge coverage of the holidays here. In Carnival, for example, they show it during hours and hours, and there aren't many other options in open TV, because most channels show the same thing.

And yeah, it's pretty fun! Not all holidays have celebrations like this one, but there's always a celebration.

Sure, I always try to enjoy the best of it! It's nice to see everyone gathered and having fun.

I wish I could go to Brazil, sound people from there are having so much fun...

But... I can't speak portuguese... Can you understand spanish? Because I'm from Mexico :)

Jul. 1, 2008 | 7:46 PM Sir-Nuts responds:

Drop by and join the fun-boat! =)

And yeah, I can understand Spanish. It's easier to read it, but listening is a bit harder.

Say something in Spanish here and I'll try to figure out what were you saying.
